Illustration Friday - Renewal

First IF of the year!! This is a watercolor and charcoal painting. I've been testing different methods trying to get more texture in watercolor. Plain watercolor doesn't have enough contrast for my taste so I used charcoal for the shadows and to outline. Prints of this one are available here. Enjoy!

Such a lovely piece! The colors are reminiscent of sunset and the charcoal + watercolor does produce an attractive texture. :)

I used to think watercolours were delightful skilled transparent full of light little paintings until I saw an exhibition of Scottish watercolourists about twelve years ago. I was blown away. Some of the paintings were the size of my garage door. Some of the paint was thick and dark too. They were definitely watercolours and up until then I had no idea they could be done like that. I wish you could have seen them. Like your illo.
