Treasury

Lots to do today, but I do want to share this lovely treausury that I made it into. Does anyone know how to actually post a thumbnail of a treasury? or is it even possible?

Wednesday

Ack! I can't believe I haven't posted anything for four days. I really thought that I would be able to do a lot more blogging over the Summer but we've just been too busy.
My little June-bug (aka Junie) is sick with some type of stomach flu. She slept in this morning til about 11, and all she can eat is crackers. Jalen was nice enough to give her bath after she threw up all over my bed and floor :o/ No one else is sick, and Matt thinks that she was up all night eating and playing and that is why she's feeling bad. We found cereal bar wrappers and a bunch of toys out in her room this morning. I think the evidence speaks for itself!
This Summer has just flown by. School starts again in a few weeks- Matt wants to start shopping for school supplies next week. Both the girls need new shoes. It doesn't matter how much I spend on their clothes and shoes they always ruin them with holes and stains. I do wish that they would appreciate their stuff more. When I was a kid all of my stuff was second hand. Ah well, guess that's just the way kids are.
I decided to go ahead and add some color (and a little bird) to my IF drawing from the other day.

Illustration Friday - Idle

This is my entry for this week's topic "idle." It's about an 8x10 and it was drawn on a piece of cotton rag paper with charcoal. I may add some color to it sometime in the future, but right now I like it as is :o)

Finally!

Josh learned how to ride his bike! We took him out last night for about an hour and today he was able to ride up and down our street. He's still a little shaky but in a couple of days he'll be fine. He was pretty nervous at first, but once I showed him a few tricks to keep from getting hurt he was really excited.

When I was a kid it took me a couple of years to learn how to ride a bike. Several of the people who tried to teach me would put me on the bike, I would start pedaling, and then they would just let go. That just isn't the best way to teach someone... at least not someone as uncoordinated as myself:o) It works out a lot better if you show the kid how to brake and catch themselves first so that they won't be afraid to fall. I've taught a lot of kids how to ride a bike, and I've found that it's a real confidence booster if they know how to catch themselves!

Monday, Monday

Not much new happening here.. I'm still as busy as ever. Three of the kids start school in two weeks! Josh's birthday is this weekend and we're planning a trip to the St. Louis zoo next weekend :o)

Tango?

This week's Illustration Friday topic is 'tango.' I have zero ideas for this one. I looked up the definition, and other then the obvious dance, it means "interaction marked by a lack of straightforwardness." Maybe something will come to me. I missed last week's topic "hollow" because I just didn't have the time:/

This is going to be a short post, because today is really busy too. I have to run in to Hobby Lobby to get supplies and all of the kids have karate class in a few hours.

How Hard is it to Brush Your Teeth???

The girls went to the dentist two weeks ago, and it turned out that Jalen has three cavities. Well I took the girls in this morning to have thier molars sealed, and guess what? The hygenist had to clean Jalen's teeth again because there was so much plaque build up (I know, that's really gross). It's only been two weeks since they were last cleaned! I would think that having three cavities would be a big enough motivater to brush your teeth, but apparantly not. Sooo, I'm going to start brushing her teeth myself. It's pretty bad that a nine year old can't brush her own teeth, but I can't stand idly by while her teeth fill up with cavities. On top of that, the hygenist showed me places where her teeth are yellowing. I really don't get it. When I was a kid I brushed my teeth four or five times a day~ getting a cavity would have been devastating! We've shown her pictures of kids with 'mountain dew mouth' and we've explained to her that she could end up having to get dentures, but it is to no avail. She just doesn't care! Does anyone know what I should do?

Bikes, Stamps, and Poetry

My favorite part about Summer, besides strawberries, is riding my bike. I have a Trek hybrid that Matt bought me three and a half years ago for my birthday. The bike shop told me when we picked it out that I should bring it back in after a year to have the breaks checked (or something like that). I actually don't really remember what he said..just that I was supposed to bring it in every year. Anyhoo, I never got around to bringing it in for a tune up until a few days ago. I actually would have waited longer but one of my pedals was squeaking. Also, it was becoming increasingly difficult to ride for long distances. I don't know why..maybe the tires were low or something. I brought my bike in on Monday and I picked it up last night. Whatever they did it made a huge difference! I haven't had a chance to go on a long bike ride, but I'm planning on going tomorrow night.

Now onto stamps! Asspocket Productions on Etsy used one of my drawings to make a stamp. You can see it here. They also sent me one and I got it in the mail yesterday. It's a neat little stamp and it even came with a plastic case. I also like that she has YouTube videos explaining how to care for and use the stamps.

Random Things For Tuesday

1. I took the girls to the dentist last week and Jalen has three cavities! I have to take her back in today to get two of them filled :o/
Junie didn't have any cavities which I was very surprised by. A few weeks ago when she found out she would be going to the dentist, she told me that usually when I tell her to go brush her teeth she just stands in the bathroom. She also said that she gets up in the middle of the night and eats "snacks."

2. I got a lot of work done this weekend. The girls were out of town and Matt took the boys out of the house all day Saturday. Soo, I spent the day Saturday watching The Twilight Zone marathon on Sci Fi and drawing :o)

3. This is the drawing that I am currently working on in my spare time. There is still a lot of detail work to be done on the shell, and I'm thinking about adding some color to it as well. You can click on it to get a bigger view :o)
